When you buy a certified pre-owned Mercedes-Benz vehicle, you’ll be buying a vehicle with one of the most stringent pre-owned certification standards in the industry. Thanks to this, you’ll get similar confidence when driving home any new vehicles for sale. On this page, we’ll answer your question regarding just what this entails. Please note, the documentation you’ll receive when buying a vehicle from Mercedes-Benz CPO inventory will take precedence over this guide. As a guideline, though, here are the CPO-related questions and answers you’re looking for:
It offers unrivaled confidence in your certified pre-owned Mercedes-Benz. For starters, you’ll get any remaining coverage of the four-year/50,000-mile New Vehicle Limited Warranty. Once that warranty ends, the Mercedes-Benz certified pre-owned limited warranty kicks in, offering you a 12-month, unlimited-mile warranty covering the engine, powertrain, suspension, steering, climate control, electrical system, audio and navigation system, brakes (but not wear items like pads and rotors), and more.1
Like the standard limited warranty, the Mercedes-Benz certified pre-owned extended warranty coverage would start once any of the remaining New Vehicle Limited Warranty has ended. Offering the same parts and systems coverage as the standard limited warranty, the extended warranty adds on another one or two years of coverage to the one-year/unlimited-miles standard limited warranty as you so choose.
When looking at non-certified Mercedes-Benz pre-owned vehicles, anything goes. That purchase can be risky thanks to factors like a lack of service records and high mileage without a warranty. When you find a certified pre-owned Mercedes-Benz, though, you can rest assured that the vehicle has passed the stringent standards Mercedes-Benz sets. These high standards that must be met include:
But that’s not all, as these are just eligibility requirements. If a vehicle passes these requirements, it’ll then be subject to a thorough 165+ point inspection and a road test by dealer technicians to reveal any problems. If the vehicle passes both of these without issue, only then can it join the Mercedes-Benz certified pre-owned inventory.
Your Mercedes-Benz certified pre-owned warranty coverage is not transferable to a different vehicle, but it is transferable to a new owner. Any remaining benefits will transfer to that new owner when you sell your certified pre-owned Mercedes-Benz vehicle to a private buyer. That being said, certain benefits may not be transferable when listed under the cancellation policy (please check your contract for full details).
As well, if you sell to a dealership or vehicle reseller, any warranty coverage remaining will terminate. Furthermore, to transfer any warranty coverage, you will need to provide the following to the new owner:
Once the sale is complete, you will need to give proof of a private-party sale to your authorized Mercedes-Benz dealership. Once presented, the warranty transfer process will be complete.
The CPO benefits you get with a Mercedes-Benz certified pre-owned warranty are many. You get one-year/unlimited-miles coverage for starters and can extend it for another two years. Covering many parts and systems, the further benefits you’ll receive include:
All this means you can drive home a vehicle from our Mercedes CPO inventory with confidence like you’d have with a new car, but without paying the new car price — that’s a major benefit itself.
The 165-point inspection is comprehensive, covering even the smallest of details like the tactile feeling of rocker switches, as well as aspects like if recalls have been performed. We recommend viewing the full documents if you want to see every single point covered. Some of the many points you’ll be pleased to hear are inspected include:
The CPO extended limited warranty covers many areas like the engine and electrical systems. But, what it doesn’t include is mainly wear items that will naturally need replacing even under ideal driving conditions. This list of exclusions includes the battery, tires, and brake pads and rotors (through normal wear), among other parts. As well, any issues caused by the installation of non-Mercedes-Benz OEM parts, improper maintenance and servicing, and externally-influenced damage (e.g., losing traction and hitting a curb) will not be covered by the warranty. Finally, any vehicle that is used for commercial/business purposes will not be covered.
Thanks to the certified pre-owned Mercedes-Benz Roadside Assistance Program, you can drive confidently knowing that if a problem were to arise, help could be promptly summoned. Included in this, you’ll receive services like:
You’ll get unlimited uses of this service and can use it whenever and wherever you need it.
